Byron Bure Academy of Theatre Arts, as part of their 10 year anniversary, is proud to present “Songs for a New World”, a musical revue by Jason Robert Brown about pivotal moments of choice and transformation. As the composer says, “it’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice… or take a stand… or turn around and go back.” Through interconnected stories, the show explores characters facing life-defining decisions—from sailors on a 1492 ship contemplating uncharted waters to individuals leaving loveless marriages or finding hope in new beginnings. Despite bleak circumstances, the message is clear: “we’ll be fine.” The score blends pop, gospel, and jazz with light harmonies and powerful vocals. The musical spans diverse locations and time periods—from a Spanish sailing ship to a New York penthouse ledge—featuring a young basketball dreamer from the Bronx, a neglected Mrs. Claus, and more.

This production showcases a powerful, diverse cast with strong vocal abilities and emotional range. Each character seizes their defining moment and steps into their own “new world”—an ideal showcase for versatile performers who embody transformation and hope.
